Living in our modern world now allows many of us to work from home. So, it’s important to create a calming home office conducive to productivity. Here are some tips for a serene and functional home office.
The above desk is the Kerrville from Four Hands. Your desk should reflect your personal preferences and what works best for you. Use Pinterest, Instagram or design magazines for inspiration on your theme but first get organized in your own way to clear your mind and make space. Keep in mind you may need two monitors so make sure you have enough space on your desk. The desk below is from Uttermost in our showroom.
Using color can brighten your mood but be careful of anything too busy that may distract your mind. Lighting is important as well as you may spend a lot of time at your desk. Natural lighting from a window is optimal during the day as it is beneficial for our health. Nobody loves fluorescent lighting and if your lighting is too dim it can cause eye strain or headaches. A nice desk light will help your concentration. Bring more of nature indoors with a desk plant. Its also important to have a comfortable, ergonomic chair. Every office needs a bookshelf and with so many meetings being virtual these days, it’s nice to have a pleasant background on your virtual meetings. One option is a nice bookshelf. There is a new trend in interior design that incorporates bookshelves called, “bookshelf wealth.” The bookshelves of this trend are showcased as prominent features in a room usually with a diverse collection of books. The bookshelf below is from LH Imports.
When your guests see your thoughtfully curated collection of books, it could be a great conversation starter. Bookshelf wealth values learning, and curiosity and the books often cover an entire wall or serve as a room divider. The below bookshelf is from Classic Home in our showroom.
Some great brands we work with that have a good selection of home office include Groupe Lacasse, Home Trends, Archibold (where you can choose your own finish), Universal, Dovetail, Classic Home and Uttermost. The below office photo is from Groupe Lacasse.
Home offices are certainly not going away anytime soon so why not make yours a pleasant place to work! With your office being in your own home, you have complete freedom to design it as you please.
