Creating a Closet Worthy of a Movie Star

Extravagant closets are one of those interior spaces that we can never get enough of. Endless space for expensive shoes, shiny marble floors, and flattering lighting.  If only we could all live like movie stars.  Though we may not all be so lucky as to have closets the size of a bedroom or enough shoes to fill an entire wall full, there are ways to make your closet so organized and pretty, that getting dressed will be a simple indulgence every single day. Incorporate a few of these design concepts into your closet space and you will feel more organized, energetic, and ready to start your day.

1. Take advantage of all of the organizational tools that are available at local retailers.  Matching plastic hangers, clear shoe boxes, and hanging sweater organizers are all useful and attractive ways to give your closet a dose of structure. If you want to add a little more class, upgrade those hangers to wood.
2. Color code your clothes. Not only will this instantly organize your space, it will help make it visually appealing as well.
3. Make use of baskets and bins on the already made shelves. Use them to hide your socks, flip-flops and other items that are uneasy to fold or hang nicely.
4. Use pegs to organize everything from belts and jewelry to scarves or any accessory that can hang.  Use earring holders to display your treasured studs and hoops. 5. Though over the door organizers are functional and a great option for closet organization if space is limited, a graduated shoe rack gives a look of luxury and a place to display your prettiest shoes.
6. Adding a mirror and a place to sit can take a simple walk in closet from a normal space to a lovely dressing area. Think about adding a chaise lounge or another small bench or stool. Adding a seating area instantly adds a touch of glam. Not only is it beautiful, it is functional. You will use it every day to put on your favorite boots or perfectly picked pumps. The key is to find a piece that fits the size of your closet. If you have a bigger space, a chaise lounge is a beautiful, comfortable addition.  Or, build in a floor to ceiling cabinet piece with a bench for seating and drawers for organization. If you’re working with smaller square feet, opt for a compact bench or ottoman. Know that you can also use your sitting piece as a way to bring color into your closet.
7. Take full advantage of the entire closet space. Use floor to ceiling cabinets, place baskets on the top shelves and use hooks hidden behind clothes to hang more belts or jewelry you want to keep out of sight but still at a moment’s reach.
8. Even if your closet is small, a beautiful lighting piece can make a huge impact. A chandelier adds a touch of whimsicalness and character to your walk in closet.  Stick to chandeliers or a light piece that adds a warm glow but is still functional if your closet space is of a more neutral and cozy color. Use bright white lighting or natural lighting if your dream closet is filled with whites and has a more sleek and clean feel.
